While the island community of Port Aransas, Texas, may not be a world-renowned golf course mecca, golfers return time and time again to swing, chip, and putt amid this biodiverse landscape. The region features some of the most enthralling links-style courses, many of which boast unobstructed Gulf of Mexico vistas, windswept dunes, and rolling terrains. Port A Escapes proudly manages the largest fleet of beachfront rentals in Port Aransas, all of which are a short drive from the area’s top-rated golf courses.

A Port Aransas Area Golf Course Guide

There are seven golf courses within an hour of Port Aransas, many of which lie in Corpus Christi. As mentioned above, the Corpus Christi-Mustang Island area is not known for its forestry. Thus, golfers will discover a handful of the Lonestar State’s most beloved links-style courses. While links-style designs lack water hazards and towering trees, they require much more accuracy due to infrequent wind gusts and elongated rough. That being said, they’re visual delights that help make any challenge seem dauntless. Let’s start our Port Aransas area golf course guide here on Mustang Island at the always spellbinding Palmilla Beach Golf Course.

1. Palmilla Beach Golf

It’s said that Palmilla Beach’s 18-hole, Arnold Palmer-designed golf course was losing money because it couldn’t meet the demand of its golfers. While undeniably beautiful, the course might have been too scenic for its own good. The pace of play was snail-like, driving people away. Today, the new and “improved” Palmilla Beach Golf Course only covers nine holes and 2,341 yards. It remains as beautiful as ever, but its short design allows casual travelers to come and go in a flash. Others, meanwhile, can take advantage of the three-hole “Loop,” a jaw-dropping trio of par threes near the Gulf’s edge.

2. Oso Beach

Oso Beach remains the pride of Corpus Christi. It’s not often that you find a municipality golf course with this much natural beauty and seemingly effortless turf craftsmanship. Oso Beach opened over 70 years ago and has undergone many changes. Yet, today, it still stands as a shining example of innovation, melding traditional and links-style creativity on nearly every hole. The diverse array of ponds, swaying palmettos, and sparse shrubberies set the scene for an 18-hole experience that’s hard to match in South Texas.

3. Lozano Golf Center

If the Lozano Golf Center and Oso Beach look similar, it’s probably because they’re owned and operated by the same parent company. Whereas Oso Beach receives salty wind gusts from Corpus Christi Bay, Lozano is wholly mainland. Yet, you still get that beachy feel when you’re driving the ball past tall palmetto trees, study live oaks, and still ponds. Lozano is the least challenging course near Port Aransas. Thus, many families visit this public landmark, which rests across Airport Road from Salinas Park, a family favorite.
