Port Aransas, Texas, is best known for its 6.3-mile beach, a stretch of oatmeal-white sand that spans from Aransas Pass to the 4,000-acre Mustang Island State Park. Port Aransas Surfing Conditions

Not unlike most surfing destinations, Port Aransas is a tale of four seasons. While winter occasionally grows moderately chilly, the largest, most powerful waves rush toward the beach from December through March as cold fronts produce tangible juice. Likewise, during the fall, tropical storms usher in sizable, albeit unpredictable waves. Spring is unquestionably consistent (and generally warmer than fall and winter). Beginners typically find their groove during summer’s hush. And summertime longboarding remains one of the season’s most alluring mid-day pursuits.

Legions of surfers typically gather near Horace Caldwell Pier, approximately 0.6 miles southwest of the Port A Jetty. Worthwhile peaks can be ridden on both sides of the pier. If you plan to visit Mustang Island State Park, we recommend paddling out to sea near the twin Fish Pass Jetties, home to one of Texas’s best beach breaks. A lot of surfers (much like anglers) don’t divulge information about their favorite hidden gems. During peak seasons, the team at Texas Surf Camps leads droves of novice surfers onto Port Aransas Beach’s soft sand. As its name suggests, Texas Surf Camps offers classes, lessons, and rentals. As noted above, summer’s hearth is the prime time to learn how to surf in Port Aransas as the temperatures are ideal and the waves are beginner-friendly. The aforementioned BoardHouse also has a small fleet of board rentals, as does Island Surf Rentals. Camps, as you might imagine, are perfect for groups (and families).
